In the Fall of 2006, the City of Greenfield Park Board received a generous 20 acre donation of premier woodland from Herb and Judy Brown. This now 40 acre parcel of premier woodland will be protected and kept in its natural state for the enjoyment of future generations to come!

  • Visit and learn about the wetland area with all of the conditions that favor the growth of specially adapted plants and promote the development of characteristic wetland soils.
  • Visitors can take part in 15 "Blue Post" Moments that are happenings specific only to Thornwood Preserve.
  • Hikers can enjoy five trails that range in difficulty from moderate to rugged. Benches are located along the trails for visitors to stop, relax, enjoy, listen, and observe.
  • Take part in the many benefits of watching species of birds that frequent the preserve.
  • Do your best to identify the many native Indiana wildflowers that call Thornwood Preserve home.
  • Animal track and tree identification is a great way to pass the time. Relax, learn and enjoy all at the same time.
  • Thornwood is home to two creeks that add a unique feature to the area.
  • Get information and learn from the materials located on our preserve kiosk.
