The Department of Planning and Building performs the following functions and services:

  • Staff the Advisory Plan Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Historic Board of Review.
  • Review requests and issue permits for development plans, conditional uses, variances, new building construction and remodeling, signs, and demolition.
  • Inspect construction of buildings.
  • Maintain and enforce compliance with Building and Zoning Codes.
  • Administer compliance with State of Indiana requirements for grants and Indiana Main Street.
  • Collaborate with Fortville and Hancock County as part of the Indiana Stellar Health and Heritage Region to promote the health, heritage, and heart of the area.

Introduction
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has awarded the City of Greenfield, Indiana (the “City”) a USPEA Brownfield Assessment Grant in the sum of $300,000 to support redevelopment of brownfields impacted by petroleum and hazardous substances. The City is requesting a letter of interest (LOI) from qualified environmental engineering/consulting firms to assist the City with management of the grant and implementation of the grant-funded environmental assessments.

City of Greenfield Thoroughfare Plan

 
The City of Greenfield will hold a public meeting on July 13, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers to inform residents of the 2020 Thoroughfare Plan Update. The Thoroughfare Plan expands upon the transportation related goals of the 2015 Greenfield Comprehensive Plan. The meeting is being held to gather public input regarding the future development of the transportation network and development scenarios for all major streets and corridors in the City of Greenfield. The public meeting is an important step in the planning process, as it helps to assess the future right of way needs and to create a realistic course of action leading to improved land use. Community attendance and participation is strongly encouraged. City planners and representatives of Shrewsberry and Associates will be available to answer questions. Information related to this project is available for review prior to the public hearing, at the office of Engineering and Planning located at 10 South State Street, Greenfield, IN, 46140, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Interested parties are invited to provide comments regarding these issues either at the public hearing or by prior written statement. Written comments should be submitted to the office of Engineering and Planning, at the above address, no later than July 10, 2020 in order to ensure placement of such comments in the official record of the public hearing proceedings. For additional information concerning the proposed project, please contact Jason Koch at the above address and phone number, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.
 
The City of Greenfield is currently holding public meetings in person and also virtually due to COVID-19. Information regarding how to attend these virtual meetings is provided on the City of Greenfield website.
